Essência do Vinho celebrates an important milestone this year: twenty years of the country's biggest wine event. The celebration will take place, as usual, at the Palácio da Bolsa, from this Thursday until Sunday. There will be more than four thousand wines, from over 400 producers, both national and foreign, open for tasting.

'It seems like yesterday, but it all started in 2004. The event that revolutionised the way Portuguese wines are presented and communicated to the public is celebrating its 20th anniversary and finalising one of the best programmes ever', the organisers say.

This year's initiative brings some novelties to Palácio da Bolsa, such as 'The Room Experience', where visitors will have the opportunity to taste wines from 20 of the world's great wine-producing families.

As usual, the programme also includes tastings commented on by renowned names from the world of oenology, and another edition of the Top 10 Portuguese Wines competition, in which an international jury will evaluate around 60 samples of the highest-scoring labels in 2023 by Revista de Vinhos.

Week dedicated to wine and wine tourism

At the same time, 'Blind Ambition: A Story of Resilience" will be screened, a documentary about four Zimbabwean refugees who beat the odds and became successful sommeliers in South Africa, even taking part in the world-famous 'World Wine Tasting Champions' competition in France.

The Spanish autonomous community of Castilla y León and the Brazilian state of Minas Gerais are the two regions invited this year.

The event at Palácio da Bolsa will round off a week dedicated to wine and wine tourism, which since the 18th included the 'Wine & Travel Week' (meetings, conferences and other experiences for professionals), the Taste of Porto itinerary (prepared by Revista de Vinhos, with 88 places in the city to celebrate the original gastronomy) and the world premiere of the show 'Merina: Spanish Gold. Oteiza', which took place on Tuesday at Coliseu do Porto.

Tickets for the 2024 edition of Essência do Vinho are now for sale at the online ticket office of the organisation.
