Californian tech company inaugurates engineering European headquarters in Porto

Around three hundred profiles in the fields of artificial intelligence, software engineering and cloud operations will develop technological solutions for contact centres from Five9's new Research & Development (R&D) centre in Bonfim.

Present at the official inauguration of what will be the European headquarters of the Californian company, the councillor for Economy, Employment and Entrepreneurship reinforced the importance of support from entities such as InvestPorto and the Agency for Investment and Foreign Trade of Portugal (AICEP) for the establishment of multinationals in the country.

Ricardo Valente recalls how companies like Five9 contribute to the development of the local economy and to the positioning of Porto internationally.

As for the the general director of the technological company, Mike Burkland, he mentioned that the choice of the new location was due, not only to Porto's growing potential as a sustainable investment destination in the area of information technologies, but also to the interest shown by international collaborators in the city.

"The city is an emerging and well-connected technology hub with a large engineering talent base that will enable us to continue our mission of bringing innovation to customer experience and business transformation to companies around the world," reinforces Mike Burkland.

In an interview with Executive Digest, Daniel Silva, Five9's manager in Portugal, explained that the company "is making a very strong investment outside the United States" and felt "the need to create an R&D centre in Europe. From Porto, solutions will be developed for all the over 2,500 customers worldwide.

The manager assured that the company wants to "turn this office into a world-class centre of excellence, with the aim of supporting and growing the business in the region through strong sales, professional services, support and customer management teams".
