Atlantic Front hosts conference of ministers of Sport of the Council of Europe

Portugal will host, for the first time, the conference of ministers of Sport of the Council of Europe. In 2024, the 18th edition of the event will take place in the cities of Porto, Vila Nova de Gaia and Matosinhos.

After the announcement, during this year’s edition, which takes place in Turkey, the cabinet of the Secretary of State for Youth and Sport said, in a statement, that “the holding of this conference in Portugal contributes to the international affirmation of the Portuguese sport”.

In addition to the main conference, the proposal for holding the event in the three municipalities of the Atlantic front, will integrate other conferences and debates around topics such as “Protecting and Safeguarding Children and Youth in Sport", "Gender Equality in Sport", or "Sporting Diplomacy”.

The event is held every two years and brings together the Ministers of Sport of 46 European countries that belong to the Council of Europe, as well Canada, Israel, and Morocco. The Steering Committee will also be represented, with 36 bodies.

“In the year of the Olympic and Paralympic Games in Paris” adds the Government, the conference “will make it possible to write a historic page in National, European and International Sport”,
