Rui Moreira, Mayor of Porto is preparing a benefit package for the city-based technology businesses, in line with the Municipality's strategy.

The Mayor announced this measure during the opening of the "Fábrica2030" conference, held at the Serralves Foundation last 17th October, which main aim was to debate the future of IT industry in the region.

On that occasion, Rui Moreira also highlighted the need for major human resources investments in terms of IT businesses, namely to deal with technology transformation. The Mayor also enhanced the "outstanding toughness" with which Portuguese entrepreneurs and businessmen addressed the "terrible crisis", for which the responsibility lies with the Government, according to the Mayor of Porto.

The "Fábrica2030" conference was also a moment to mark the 3rd anniversary of the ECO Information Portal and the 30th anniversary of the Serralves Foundation.

Among the topics addressed were the relationship between Evolution and Revolution, Automation, Machine Learning and AI, as well as Production and Distribution Cycles.

The role of the State in creating a more fertile environment regarding the industrial activity and what to expect - or not - about the link foreign investment and Portuguese share was also a topic on the discussion table.

The European Commissioner for Research, Science and Innovation, Carlos Moedas lectured on the opportunities for the digital sector and the Portuguese industry, whereas the former Minister of Economy and current the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD), Álvaro Santos Pereira supported the fight against corruption as a national priority.
