The challenge of implementing wise waste management systems in an urban setting, alongside viable and effective environmental solutions for the treatment and recovery of solid waste in Porto led to the launch of the campaign "O Porto é a Nossa Casa" ["Porto is our home", free translation].

This campaign was organised to deliver efficient information to the people that live and dwell in Porto; it seeks to encourage the correct separation of all waste, the correct use of each type of container and the wrongful disposal of garbage bags, so that behaviour changes become a reality.

This Strategic Environmental Communication Plan focus on the attitudes and behaviours that need changing in Porto, in order to attain an agreeable and clean city to live in; thus, original Mupis will deliver information on public health and life quality to everyone, enhancing that keeping the city clean is everyone's responsibility and that waste management best practices must be shared by all.

The purpose is to keep all citizens best informed on best practices regarding recycling and selective collection of solid waste, and that it is fundamental to build on the sense of belonging, to improve everyone's attitude towards the city, namely recycling rather than disposing, correct disposal of waste, and the true value of citizenry.

Attitudes such as discarding what is now regarded as unnecessary shall be replaced by attitudes that can recover value of things people see as garbage.

This campaign is organised by the municipal company Porto Ambiente, and the "O Porto é a Nossa Casa" has already visited the largo dos Lóios, the Rua das Flores and the Praça D. Filipa de Lencastre.
Soon, it will be in different streets and squares all across Porto.
