Porto Femme 2nd edition kicks off today, 18 June at the Invicta. This international film festival is all about films made by women, starred by women, or where women play a relevant role.

The opening session of this international festival will be hosted by the auditorium of Almeida Garrett Library and other venues host the several sessions and events, namely Cinema Trindade, Selina Porto and Maus Hábitos. The Barracuda - Clube de Roque is the chosen place for the opening and closing ceremonies.

This second edition features about 116 films; the international competition includes 53 movies, short and long feature films, documentaries and experimental films.

At national level, the national competition presents 16 films, with a highlight for directors Catarina Mourão and Margarida Madeira.

The XX Element event, combining women directors and women leading actresses or even performing a relevant technical role includes 18 films.

Novelty this year is the Student Competition, which includes 29 films to be debated and appreciated.

O Porto Femme 2019 is jointly organised with Panoramas internacionais, and features films screened at the FEMCINE and FLYING BROOM festivals. Also, the programme includes workshops, exhibits and masterclasses.

The closing ceremony is devoted to honouring filmmaker Monique Rutler with the award "Mulher-Cineasta", ["Woman Filmmaker", free translation].
