Local Housing and tourism development owners that have accommodated health professionals, free of charge, fighting the new coronavirus pandemic in the frontlines in the city of Porto, will be granted special municipal financial support of circa 111 thousand euros.

The proposition will be voted during the next Municipal Executive Meeting, on 25th May, Monday.

Right before the declaration of pandemic by the WHO, "out of solidarity, Local Housing and Hotel owners, accommodated health professionals working in the city public hospitals at no charge", as stated by councillor for Economy, Tourism and Trade Ricardo Valente.

In view of the fact that this specific sector of tourism was negatively affected by massive cancellation of reserves and that has, nevertheless, welcomed free of charge frontline health professionals fighting Covid-19", the independent majority of the City Hall intends to grant them financial support, regarding the period of 14th March and 16th April, and update the amount of the support to the number of hotel rooms granted.

During the most critical time of the pandemic fight, the number of allocated hotel rooms to health workers was 300. That availability was coordinated by the City Hall, in conjunction with the Medical Association.

The proposition that will be voted on 25th May states that this support will be extended to 28 entities of the city, which have provided 378 rooms to more than 200 health workers.

The same documents also states that "the Municipality cannot be indifferent to this solidarity and respective financial burden" by the tourism sector.
