On Saturday night, the Town Hall building lit up in blue and yellow, the colours of the Ukrainian flag, in a symbolic act to mark two years since the invasion by Russia.

The action, in response to a request from the Ukrainian Consulate in Porto, represents yet another demonstration of the city's solidarity with Ukraine, which has been invaded by Russia since 24 February 2022.

In addition to dozens of Ukrainian citizens and many who sympathise with the cause of the Ukrainian people, the deputy mayor of Porto, Filipe Araújo, was also present at the symbolic act.

In the words of the consulate, the initiative intended to mark 'the heroic struggle of the Ukrainian people against the Russian military invasion', and to recall the importance of 'international support' in protecting their sovereignty and independence.
