This Monday, Porto Public Transport Society (STCP) launched an international public tender for the purchase of eight 100% electric midi buses, as well as for the installation of a charging station with four double chargers. With a base price of three million euros, bids must be submitted by 5pm on 12 June.

The intermunicipal company stresses that the investment 'will make it possible to raise the quality of the public service provided to the population, as well as contribute to a 'greener' operation by reducing carbon emissions'.

Following a decarbonisation policy and a fleet renewal plan, the aim is to stop using combustion engine buses by 2027.

The chairwoman of STCP's board of directors says that 'the arrival of these new vehicles allows us to increase the range of the company's operations, without neglecting our environmental commitment, and to respond to our customers' needs'.

'We will continue to work towards greener mobility, reinforcing our sustainability policy and actively promoting carbon neutrality in the cities where we operate,' adds Cristina Pimentel.

The eight vehicles - of the nine-metre midi type - will have a minimum range of 250 kilometres and will enter circulation in the last four months of 2024. By then, STCP will have a total of 96 vehicles in operation that are 100% emission-free.

The new buses will be allocated to the Estação de Recolha de Francos, where the charging station will be installed, consisting of four double chargers.

We should note that, in February, the operator had already acquired 48 fully electric buses, with another two dozen 'green' passenger transport vehicles due to be delivered by the end of the year.
