The Brazilian community living in Northern Portugal, namely in Porto, and all those travelling to the north-east of Brazil for work or tourism will now have a direct connection between Porto and the capital of Pernambuco - Recife. The Brazilian airline Azul will be operating direct flights as of next winter (summer in its sister country).

Recife is now the only capital in the north-east of Brazil to have direct flights from the Brazilian national airline to the European continent. 'It will be the first flight between the two cities and should make its debut in time for Christmas and the Brazilian summer,' says the operator. For the time being, Porto only has direct flights to São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro.

The importance of this route is evident in the growing interest of Pernambucans in European destinations. Porto, for example, is the fifth most popular city for residents of that Brazilian state. It is expected that this decision will also attract more European tourists to the north-east of Brazil.

Azul currently has 1,000 daily flights to more than 160 destinations and a network of 300 direct routes, adding another to its catalogue, this time between Porto and Recife.
