Municipal Theatre

The auditorium at Campo Alegre Theatre premieres the film Yojimbo", on 24th September, under the cinema cycle devoted to the filmography by renowned Japanese director Akira Kurosawa.

The masterpieces of Akira Kurosawa, one of the most acknowledged Japanese filmmakers in the West, are on display at Campo Alegre Municipal Theatre, from 17th September till 30th October. Seven films, in digital restored copies, five of which were never presented in a movie theatre in Portugal, will be screened at Porto Municipal Theatre - Campo Alegre.

Ernst Ingmar Bergman, the Swedish director, writer and producer deemed as one of the "greatest artists of the Twentieth Century", produced and directed over sixty films and documentaries for cinema and television, which include films such as Sommarnattens leende (1955), The Seventh Seal (1957), Wild Strawberries (1957), Persona (1966), Viskningar och rop (1972), Scener ur ett äktenskap (1973) and Fanny and Alexander (1982).

The Municipal Theatre of Porto provides subscriptions for six dance performances for the 2020/2021 Season by renowned national and international dancers, namely Marlene Monteiro Freitas and Jérôme Bel. The Assinatura 6 (Subscrition 6) costs 40 euros and it can be purchased at the ticket office of Theatre Rivoli and Theatre Campo Alegre (after reopening, as they are currently closed for holidays) or at the BOL till 25th september.

The film "In the White City", by Swiss director Alain Tanner, premieres on 31st July, at the cinema studio of Theatre Campo Alegre. Sessions are available at 6.30pm.

This is the first long film by Jeanne Balibar, famous French actress and singer. The chosen genre is comedy and the movie"Wonders in the Suburbs" is underpinned with a curious plot as Balibar features politicians as a very enlightened group, rather than vicious and cynical. Sessions at the cine studio of Campo Alegre at 6.30pm.

That Obscure Object of Desire (Ese oscuro objeto del deseo) concludes the screening of films devoted to the cycle 25x Buñuel at Theatre Campo Alegre, on 26th July, at 3.30pm.

Cinema screenings are taking up again with a special programming to celebrate the occasion; the filmography by Spanish/Mexican director Luis Buñuel, which is on show at Campo Alegre from 11th June, under the "25x Buñuel" cinema cycle, features its last Buñuel screening on 26th July, with "That Obscure Object of Desire". Also on screen, this month, is a cycle devoted to the Japanese erotic film, which "has not always been known to the west". The cycle "O Roman Porno da Nikkatsu" features 10...

The most popular film by Fellini, La Dolce Vita screens at Campo Alegre, on 6th August and marks the debut of the cinema cycle devoted to one of the great filmmakers of the Twentieth century. The cycle concludes on 10th September.

The last film by Luís Buñuel - That Obscure Object of Desire (Ese oscuro objeto del deseo) - which is considered one of his most ironic comments on desire and sexuality, will be on show at Campo Alegre cine studio, on 26th July, at 3.30pm.
