Pérgola da Foz, one of the most iconic constructions on the Atlantic front of the city of Porto, was rehabilitated by the Municipality. This structure was heavily damaged and the goal was to restore the concrete structure and the balcony. The surrounding balustrade, ramps and stairs to access the beaches, from Jardim dos Ingleses to Esplanada do Molhe, were also repaired.

The Bolhão Market construction project is about to enter its conclusion phase. Right at Rua Formosa, we find the centennial Mercado do Bolhão building, where an intensive repair and restoration work, much like that of watchmaking, is ongoing. The works are estimated to conclude in the second half of the year. Circa 120 workers are keeping old features and traditions alive, by renovating a system of gears and springs at the heart of the old building, which will bring back to the city the heritage

Porto’s Christmas Market, at the Praça da Batalha, and several fairs and Xmas events can be spotted all across town; and there are several proposals that are certain to bring back Xmas magic to the month of December, amid such an unprecedented year. This is the chance to not only find those unique and original Christmas gifts but also support local and traditional traders.

Tonight, Porto stayed indoors to celebrate St John. In a notable way, Porto demonstrated civic-mindedness. Because it believes in the future, it is capable of sacrificing its present. This is no ordinary city. Here, we grit our teeth and face up to the challenge. That’s who we are. Period.
