Xmas Windows Contest: and the winner is…

The Christmas contest for best Xmas window 2020 offered a tough time when choosing the winner application, as all the 138 shop Windows in contest offered high standard quality and creativity; however, the “Florista Verdelinho”, located at the Rua de Cedofeita, was granted first place in the competition, followed by the “Armazém dos Linhos” and “Sogevinus Wine Shop Flores”, which got second and third podium places, respectively.

The meeting minutes were unanimously approved by the Municipal Executive, this morning, and prize distribution will go forward.

The Municipality of Porto will award the winner a prize worth 2.250, the second will be granted 1.750 and the third place will receive 1.250 euros. Honourable Mentions were attributed from the 4th to the 10th competitor, as follows: Semilac, illustrART, Clérigos In, Casa dos Forros, Fernandes Mattos e Ca Lda., Agrafo Studio and Marcolino.

The key rules for participating were creativity and artistic displays that celebrated the festive season. Each business can submit one or more windows to the contest, by applying each of the windows and by using different decoration.

The symbolic prize of “Montra Amiga do Ambiente” [“Window friend of the Environment”, free translation] was awarded to the pharmacy Farma24, which means that the winner showed the commitment towards environment protection, pollution prevention and sustainable use of resources.

The Xmas Window decoration contest is promoted by Porto City Hall, jointly with the Traders Association of Porto. This is now the 5th edition and the goal is to showcase the best businesses storefronts in the city of Porto. In addition, the contest aims to promote businesses participation and to create awareness on the importance of shopping local and boosting local economy.
