The University of Porto and Santander Universidades will provide an early celebration of International Volunteering Day, on 4th December. This day, as recognised by the United Nations since 1985, is celebrated on 5th December; however, the UP will observe this day tomorrow morning with a webinar scheduled for 11am, with the presentation of the four winning projects of the Santander UNI-Covid19 Prize.

This is an initiative that is targeted at acknowledging and supporting social projects implemented during the ongoing pandemic, by university students and other members of the national academic community.

This session also features a debate on the main challenges these university projects had to overcome on the ground. The debate is moderated by Cristina Dias Neves, Director of the Santander Universidades patronage.

The initiative “U.Porto Santander Inspira-te” will be announced, first hand. The main goal is to train both university students and teachers towards the development of social impact projects.

International Volunteering Day was established by the UN on 5th December, in 1985, with the goal of appreciating and encouraging voluntary service all across the world. This year, the theme is 2020 Theme: Together We Can Through Volunteering.

Manuel Heitor, Minister of Science, Technology and Higher Education, will open the session. The webinar closes with the participation of the Rector of the University of Porto, António Sousa Pereira.

Participation is free and open to all, upon prior registration.
