The University of Porto associates with the International Breast Cancer Awareness Month (BCAM), which is October and whose goal is to raise awareness on the disease and to raise funds for research, prevention, diagnosis, treatment and cure. Thus, the U. Porto offers free fitness activities to the entire community from 26th October until 30th October, under its UPFit programme.

This is a joint initiative by the Sports Centre of the U.Porto (CDUP-UP) and the international Breast Cancer Awareness Month (BCAM), in partnership with the Northern Regional Department of the Portuguese League against Cancer. This way, the UP marks this date with the promotion of physical activities thus enhancing the relevance of early screening, test and a healthy lifestyle.

Those who wish to participate just have to enrol in the intended class/session - on the day of the activity - at the CDUP-UP front desk.

Physical exercise plays an important role in breast cancer and it is one of the 12 ways of reducing cancer according to the European Code Against Cancer and the World Cancer Research Fund that recommend that physical activities should be performed at least 150 minutes per week, combined with a healthy diet to protect against cancer and to improve health in the long run.

Participants to this initiative are invited to share photos of their participation in any of the UPFit activities under the Pink October Campaign on social media with the hashtags #outubrorosa and #upfitrosa.
