The first trees of the programme "Se tem um jardim, temos uma árvore para si" [“If you have a garden, we have a tree for you”, free translation] by Porto City Hall have already been distributed. The Municipality of Porto has circa three thousand trees to offer to residents in Porto or to institutions with private gardens and yards within the city of Porto. Since the start of the campaign, in the end of March until the 12th April, 482 applications were submitted and 1405 trees were allocated. Another 217 applications are under consideration.

This is the 4th edition of the programme "Se tem um jardim, temos uma árvore para si" [“If you have a garden, we have a tree for you”, free translation], which is part of the FUN project: Native and Urban Forests in Porto, established in 2016.

On 22nd April, which marks the International Earth day, the Environment Municipal team of Environment handed over the first trees at the Municipal Nursery of Porto, with the participation of Porto City Hall’s vice-Mayor and councillor for Environment, Filipe Araújo.

Applications for the tree giveaway campaign run until the end of the month.

Parque Oriental hosts symbolic planting

Parque Oriental in Porto witnessed the symbolic planting of eight tress, on 22nd April, each of one representing a School of the Porto Polytechnic Institute (IPP), under the MUD.AS – Cuida o clima project.

Also marking the International Earth Day, the initiative was jointly organised by IPP and QUERCUS – The National Association for Nature Conservation. This event was attended by Filipe Araújo, vice-Mayor and Councillor for Porto City Hall and students of the Polytechnic Institute, as well as FAP – Porto Academic Federation and the CNJ – National Youth Council, also members of the initiative.

The MUD.AS is promoted by the IPP, which is a partner of the Municipality of Porto. The programme is aimed at raising young people's awareness of climate change impacts, the importance of a rational and efficient use of natural resources and the need to enhance this type of action to protect the environment.

This initiative is held under the wider contact of exhibitions, workshops and talks within the academic community.

This initiative is part of Porto’s municipal strategy to mitigate and adapt to climate change, in line with the Environment and Climate Change Adaptation, in the framework of the FUTURO project, whose fundamental goal is the planting of 100 thousand trees in the Porto Metropolitan Area until 2020.
