The year begins with travellers, once again, distinguishing Porto as a destination worth visiting. This time it was Tripadvisor users who chose the Invicta among the best cultural destinations in the world. In a list of 25 cities, Porto is ranked 13th place, ahead of destinations like Buenos Aires, Vienna or even Berlin.

Standing out the city “that gave its name to the country”, as well as to the wine, famous around the world, Tripadvisor says that a visit to Porto must have wine tastings, daily and historical tours, as well as the tours outdoors.

“The historic centre, focused on Ribeira, was built on the hills overlooking the Douro river and is currently a UNESCO World Heritage Site”, highlights the travel platform, considering Igreja de São Francisco as one of the “major attractions” to visit.

This year’s winners of the "Travellers’ Choice Awards Best of the Best" are destinations whose hotels, restaurants and attractions received, in the past year, a large volume of positive reviews and opinions from the community that uses the platform.

In a list headed by the Island of Cuba, travellers also chose Cusco (Peru), Agra (India), Fez (Morocco), Athens (Greece), Dublin (Ireland), Columbo (Sri Lanka), Hue (Vietnam), Edinburgh (Scotland), Tokyo (Japan), Prague (Czech Republic), Addis Ababa (Ethiopia), Seville (Spain), Vienna (Austria), Singapore, Berlin (Germany), Amman (Jordan), Buenos Aires (Argentina), Quito (Ecuador) Hong Kong, Bogotá (Colombia), Yerevan (Armenia) and Baku (Azerbaijan).

Tripadvisor considers that, “from museums and historic places, to local flavours and traditions, experiences at these places are truly unique”. “Less than 1% of Tripadvisor’s eight million listings are awarded with the Best of the Best prize, which means the highest level of excellence in travel” adds the company.
