Three researchers from Porto make it to the 2020 list of highest cited researchers

Portuguese scientists have been spotlighted by several scientific bodies of research. Many of those lead their researchers from Porto. The “Highly Cited Researchers” 2020 index, by Clarivate Analytics, an American company that has acknowledged over 6.100 researchers, from 60 countries and regions, in 21 fields of research.

Célia Manaia, researcher of the Centre for Fine Chemistry of the Catholic University of Porto (Centro de Biotecnologia e Química Fina da Universidade Católica Portuguesa) and professor at the Escola Superior de Biotecnologia; José Tenreiro Machado, of the Electro Technical engineering of the Superior Institute of Engineering (Instituto Superior de Engenharia do Porto – ISEP); and Manuel Simões, senior researcher of the Processes, Environment, Biotechnology and Energy Lab (Laboratório de Engenharia de Processos, Ambiente, Biotecnologia e Energia) and professor of the Chemical Engineering Department of the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Porto are in the list of the prominent professionals in the world.

The Clarivate – specialized company in scientific information management – features 26 Nobel prizes. The USA, China, United Kingdom and Germany are the most represented countries in this year’s ranking.

The “Highly Cited Researchers” index spotlights the best among the best scientists at world level, ever since 2001, based on the number of citation by their peers.
