The Rectorate of the University of Porto plays host to a first-of-its-kind meeting. From 17 to 19 April, Porto will convene the United Nations Assembly, where university students and secondary school students will play the role of United Nations Delegates and will address the major issues on the United Nations agenda.

Model United Nations University of Porto organizes this three-day event, whose main purpose is to motivate students to participate in the global economic and social life, fostering the development of an effective civic involvement so as to address international challenges. The proposed outcome is to find effective and sustainable solutions for issues such as the rights of the LGBTQ+ community around the world, gender equality, women's rights, food security, global warming and the issue of the refugees in the Mediterranean.

Richard Zimler, reputed journalist and writer, established in Porto for the past two decades, will be the invited speaker in the first day of the meeting.

Students must be part of the assembly, write and deliver speeches, lobby and debate the main topics of the meeting.

The organisation recommends "students prepare themselves for they must voice the opinion of the countries they represent".

The meeting will be held in English, and as stated by the organisation "if English is not your forte, this is not a valid excuse to miss such an important educational conference".

Application for delegates are open till April 6. Registration costs two euros.

This event is entrance free for the general public.
