STCP, Porto’s Bus Company, transported, on average, 190 thousand passengers, last May. These figures comprise the entire Bus network, operating on working days and represent 70% of the figures registered during the pre-pandemic phase.

“With the slow returning to normality and the resuming of businesses in several sectors, the STCP - Sociedade de Transportes Colectivos do Porto has seen a considerable increase in the daily demand”, the company states in a news release.

Comparing to the same period in 2020, the daily average of passengers was 270 thousand passengers on week days; now, as stated by the company, the figures of the daily demand are, on average, circa 70% of the traffic running before the pandemic.

The easing of the lockdown brings along a gradual increase in the number of passengers. In a statement, the STCP informs that between 15 and 31 March, the company transported circa 124 thousand passengers (46% as regards the pre-pandemic scenario), and between 5 and 16 April, the company transported 151 thousand passengers (56%), and 176 thousand passengers between 19 and 30 April (65%).

As of 24 May, “the operation by the STCP relies with an enhanced offer (106%) with the implementation of a transitional strengthening on working days, in some of the lines that are in greatest demand”. This support is motivated by the health conditions, implemented by the company during the pandemic situation, to make sure that there is "maximum security to all travellers: passengers and drivers”, the Bus company stated.
