City Hall’s executive votes at the public meeting on Monday, the 18th, to change the origin and end of the lines of the intermunicipal and interregional public road passenger transport service, which becomes necessary with the beginning of operations of the Terminal Intermodal de Campanhã.

This Wednesday, July the 20th, Porto will enter a new era of mobility. On that day Terminal Intermodal de Campanhã (TIC) will start operating, “the place where lines meet” – a significant part of the public transport with origin and destination in the city will pass through these infrastructures.

Therefore, it is necessary to promote the change of the origin and end of the intermunicipal and interregional public road passenger transport service lines, so the Municipal Executive will analyse, at the public meeting on Monday, a proposal in this sense.

In the document, signed by the Porto Mayor, Rui Moreira, it is recalled that, within the scope of the International Public Tender for the Aquisição do Serviço Público de Transporte Rodoviário de Passageiros na Área Metropolitana do Porto (AMP), “it was agreed between the parties that the change of origin and end of intermunicipal and interregional lines in the city of Porto would take place when the operators started working in the new public service concession to which AMP is the grantor or until TIC came into operation, whichever date comes first.

“It so happens that the TIC will start operating on the July 20, 2022, so it is necessary to promote the change of the origin and end of the lines of the public service of intermunicipal and interregional road passenger transport, with origin or destination in the city of Porto”, adds the mayor.

“As this is a significant change in the public road transport network operating in the city of Porto”, says Rui Moreira, “a transition period must be ensured until this measure takes effect, with the aim of informing users, making the necessary adjustments in the operation of public transport, by private operators and by STCP, as well as for interventions to improve equipment, road infrastructure and traffic signs.”

Following the “major investments made”, the Municipality intends, with the begging of operation at TIC, to reorganize the “access of the public road passenger transport to the city, using a set of terminals and strategic interfaces, minimizing the huge pressure on the road system that has been verified.”

Thus, the terminals and interfaces to be used by the private operators of collective public road passenger transport were identified, it is also detailed. According to the document attached to the proposal, quoted by Lusa agency, Parque das Camélias, in Batalha area, will receive intermunicipal lines from Arouca (CCT), Oliveira de Azeméis (centre), São João da Madeira (CCT), Santa Maria da Feira (Fiães) and Vila Nova de Gaia (Alheira, Areinho, Camélias, Chãos Vermelhos, Freixieiro, Grijó Outlet-Park&Ride, Igreja de Olival, Interface dos Carvalhos, Pedroso, Póvoa de Baixo, Salgueiros and Vilar de Andorinho).
