In a tightly contested match, Slovakian tennis player Rebecca Sramkova won the Porto II W50 final on Sunday, beating Spanish Jessica Bouzas Maneiro in three sets, 6-7 (4), 7-5 and 6-1.

In front of the large crowd that filled the stands of the indoor courts at the Monte Aventino Sports Complex, Sramkova got off to an overwhelming start, quickly taking a 4-1 lead in the first set and always setting the pace. Jessica Bouzas didn't give up, though, and slowly but effectively got closer to the Slovakian. She tied the set, taking it to a tie break (in her favour by 7-4).

In the second set, Sramkova didn't let her guard down and not only levelled the score at five, but closed it out by 7-5. The 4-0 lead she quickly took in the third set was only interrupted by the Spaniard's 'set of honour'. Sramkova closed out the match 6-1, winning her 13th ITF World Tennis Tour singles title in Porto and her first on Portuguese soil.

'I really like playing here'

She became the second international champion in the 2024 Monte Aventino, after last week the Spaniard Jessica Bouzas Maneiro celebrated the title on the same stage.

'I'm very happy to have won this title and against an opponent who has had a great two weeks. I felt myself gaining confidence with each round I won and it felt great to have won', Rebecca Sramkova emphasised: 'In two weeks time I'll be back in Porto for the third tournament, I really enjoy playing here'.

The Porto II ITF W50 handed out 40,000 dollars in prize money, with the biggest slices of the 'cake' going to Rebecca Sramkova and Jessica Bouzas Maneiro.

The next event - ITF W75 - will once again take place on the indoor courts of the Monte Aventino Sports Complex, from 18 to 25 February. All these competitions are supported by Ágora – Cultura e Desporto.
