Step into the weekend with this on your mind: Serralves and CIIMAR invite for a free online chat on sea potentialfor the production of medicinal products at world level, under the topic “A Química Secreta dos Oceanos” [“The secret chemistry of Oceans”, free translation].

This initiative is part of the “Conversas com Ciência” [“Conversations with Science”, free translation], jointly organised by Serralves and by CIIMAR (Interdisciplinary Center of Maritime and Environmental Investigation). The session is free and takes place online ton 24th January.

“As we explore the vastness of the oceans, it was clear that the many organisms that inhabit the ocean – from coastal waters to the deepest water – represent no extraordinary reservoir of new molecules. These are very different from the one found in the terrestrial environment, and are used as medicines all over the world, although we are still in the beginning of a long way to finding the chemistry that is beneath the Oceans”, as stated by the organisation in a press release.

The talk’s moderator is Pedro Leão, chief researcher at CIIMAR, where he leads the Cyanobacterial Natural Products research team.

The aim of these monthly sessions, jointly organised by Serralves and CIIMAR, as noted by the organisation, is “to bring the community closer to science, by raising their awareness on the work developed by researchers of the centre.

This month talk happens on 24th January, at 10. 30 am. Participation is free, but it requires previous registration via email a.silva@serralves.pt (access link will be provided subsequently sent).
