The first edition of the book “Fórum do Futuro: Vita Nova” was launched to mark the seventh edition of the Forum of the Future, which was not held due to the ongoing pandemic. Now out of print, the book will be reprinted and will be available for purchase, as of 16th April, at the Municipal Gallery of Porto and partner entities.

The first edition of the book was launched in December 2020 and was made available for free at the Rivoli Theatre both to materialise the 7th edition of the Forum of the Future and to launch the debate on human existence and non-existence in the current social setting, by approaching different cosmogonies.

This edition is organised by the curatorial team of the Forum of the Future 2020, namely Guilherme Blanc, current artistic director of Batalha - Centro de Cinema, and three invited curators: Filipa Ramos, Sutela, and Shumon Basar. The book is jointly published with the German publishing house BOM DIA BOA TARDE BOA NOITE and relies on visual and written essays, as well as talks and interviews with relevant personalities in the artistic and academic fields. The book is divided in four thematic sections that convey the rationality of the cosmos under the cultural, scientific, philosophical and technological perspectives. The book also gathers inputs by Sophia Al-Maria, K Allado-McDowell, Tosh Basco (boychild), Rosi Braidotti, Octavia Butler, Ted Chiang, GPT-3, Alexis Pauline Gumbs, Joan Jonas, Kirsten Keller, Tabita Rezaire, Denise Ferreira da Silva, Suzanne Treister, Aby Warburg, Chandra Wickramasinghe and Feifei Zhou.

In addition, and with the purpose of retaining public involvement within the Forum of the Future event, the book also contains a series of talks between authors Chandra Wickramasinghe, Rosi Braidotti, Sophia Al-Maria and Denise Ferreira da Silva, and student groups of the Faculty of Sciences of the University of Porto, the Faculty of Fine Arts of the University of Porto, the School of Arts- Catholic University and the Art School of Porto (ESAP).

Starting on 16th April, the second edition of “Fórum do Futuro: Vita Nova” can be purchased for 20€ at Porto Municipal Gallery and at partner spaces, namely the Galeria Zé dos Bois, in Lisbon, and Matéria Prima, in Porto.

That same day, the English edition of the book is available at Porto Municipal Gallery, at the same price. The book’s international distribution is ensured by BOM DIA BOA TARDE BOA NOITE.
