Run-up to Porto Marathon

Porto Marathon is held 5 November and registrations are open.

As in previous years, Porto marathon gathers thousands of athletes of all ages. In 2016, the event brought together 15,000 athletes.

In the last edition, "more than 6.000 athletes from 58 countries participated in this 42 Km classic race, making this the most significant marathon in Portugal, and 27% of the entrants were of foreign nationality", recalls Runporto, the organising entity.

Athletes names and other novelties regarding this year's edition will be revealed later on this month, however, renowned Portuguese athletes such as Salomé Rocha, Ana Mafalda Ferreira (Sporting C. P.), Daniel Pinheiro (Maia A. C.), Miguel Ribeiro (Olímpico Vianense), Bruno Silva (Águias de Alvelos), Ricardo Dias (Sporting C. P.) and Pedro Palma (professional triathlete who will make his debut in Porto Marathon) will compete.

In the meantime, the organization has announced a preparatory training to be held 29 October, at 9, 30 am in the City Park entrance (Boavista Avenue).

Besides the Marathon distance (42 km) there is a 15 km race, called Family Race, and a 6 km mini-marathon/Fun Race. In total, over 15,000 athletes are expected to compete the Porto Marathon.
