Rivoli is inviting everyone to help blow out the birthday cake candles, in the 2021 online birthday party, which stretches from 20th January to 24th January. Celebrating an anniversary, especially the 89th anniversary of the city of Porto’s icon Rivoli Theatre is the reassurance that culture lingers and helps people thrive.

The sharp increase of Covid-19 new infections makes it impossible to throw an in-person celebratory programme, as new lockdown measures are in place to mitigate the pandemic outbreak. So, put as smile to your face and discover the wonders that technology offer, namely the possibility to “be” on stage at the Rivoli, while sitting around comfortably in your favourite couch at home.

“As stated at the Rivoli’s website”, this will be an anniversary celebration “from Rivoli to the world”, which features the TEATRO NOVA EUROPA, a choreography for two dancers and two musicians by NÉ BARROS, or the double concert with JORGE QUEIJO + FRANCISCO ANTÃO and the vocal collective COBRA’CORAL, and a set of eleven performances by SOLVEIG PHYLLIS ROCHER from the 2020 TMP’s programming.

The birthday agenda also includes the visual and literary route by the voice of SEIS DISEURS, the launch of a new release of CADERNOS DO RIVOLI and the opportunity to watch once again the first episode of the series PAR(s), a film jointly produced by the choreographer JOANA CASTRO and the filmmaker CLÁUDIA VAREJÃO.

The following performances: “Falaise”, by Camille Decourtye & Blai Mateus Trias/ Baro d'evel, and “Caixa para guardar o vazio”, by Fernanda Fragateiro & Aldara Bizarro, which were part of the 89th Rivoli Anniversary programme, will be rescheduled in a soon to be announced date.

Bring your best smile to the party and enjoy!
