The rehabilitation works of the vaulted ceiling of the chapel at the Agramonte Cemetery and of the chapel at the Prado do Repouso Cemetery, at the Bonfim parish, have been completed. Porto City Hall commenced the rehabilitation works to protect historical buildings, which require extra care and attention to detail, as not to endanger the original features and materials, as historic heritage are our link to the past and bygone eras.

The rehabilitation works of the chapel at the Agramonte Cemetery was an endeavour that comprised the replacement of the building roof, with the deployment of a waterproof canvas, and the repair of the metallic coating sealing as well, at the bureau higher floor. The municipal company GO Porto also verified the water supply network (North side), and strengthened the waterproof roofing over the sacristy and the symmetrical structure. This project, by architect Perry Azevedo, represented an investment of circa 55 thousand euros.

In turn, the vaulted ceiling of the chapel at the Prado do Repouso Cemetery comprised the sealing of fissures and breakings. The chapel’s surface and façade painting treatment, namely window-sashes and plaster repair, as well as inner pavement works had already been restored in 2018. This endeavour, also ensured by the municipal company Gestão e Obras do Porto - GO Porto, represented an investment of circa 94 thousand euros.

Both endeavours are included in the Municipality of Porto plan that commits to the conservation and preservation of the built heritage within municipal cemeteries.
