This Wednesday, May 17th, marks the International Day Against Homophobia, Transphobia and Biphobia. Just as last year, the Municipality of Porto joined Porto Pride as together they raised, in General Humberto Delgado Square, a rainbow flag, symbol for the LGBTQIA+ community.

The mayor of the Porto City Hall, Rui Moreira, joined by the councillor for Education, Fernando Paulo, was present in the ceremony, as well as the councillor from PS, Jorge Garcia Pereira, the councillor from CDU, Ilda Figueiredo, leaders of Porto Pride and the LGBTQIA+ community from Porto.

In this International Day Against Homophobia, Transphobia and Biphobia, Porto marks the occasion with the colours of the rainbow, contributing to raise awareness to the violence, discrimination, and repression of the LGBTQIA+ community all over the world.

“It is good to know that the Porto City Hall, alongside the mayor Rui Moreira, is present. It is a symbolic act, because it lasts for only one day, but it has repercussions in every other day of the year, specifically for young people, LGBTI people, that, often, do not feel safe to be themselves”, Diogo Vieira da Silva stated.

Porto Pride’s coordinator and some organisations from the LGBTQIA+ community of the city later met, in Paços do Concelho, with the councillor for Education, Fernando Paulo.
