The project "Aquisições", which reactivated the Municipal Art Collection in Porto, already has a new selection committee for 2021, as well as dates for direct procurement of artwork to artists and art collectives. Procurement suggestions run between 1st and 15th April 2021.

The committee features an independent panel of contemporary art experts, namely Eduarda Neves, curator, professor and director of the Art School of Porto (ESAP); João Sousa Cardoso, theatre director, university professor and current consultant of the Museu da Cidade do Porto; and Pedro de Llano, art historian, curator and professor of at the Department of Art History of the University of Santiago de Compostela. It is the committee task to assess procurement suggestions, as well as artwork selection by artists and art collectives based in Porto.

The project’s 4th edition, which is run by Ágora’s department of Contemporary Art and Cinema, is supplemented by a new budget of 100 thousand euros to the direct procurement of artwork to galleries. These procurement moments are set to happen between July and October. The direct procurement to artists and art collectives in Porto, which is met with a total budget of 50 thousand euros, is scheduled to take place between 1st and 15th April. This initiative, which main goal is to boost and highlight Porto's artistic patrimony, features the regular procurement of artwork displayed in exhibitions in art galleries across town, and the result was the increase of the Municipal Art Collection since 2012. In the past three years, the Municipal Art Collection was increased with 28 new artworks - 12 in 2018 and 16 in 2019 - purchased to several arts galleries in the city.
