Back on the road after a virtual format in 2020, due to the pandemic situation, Porto’s Marathon will have a new route for the 42 Km event.

Athletes and running enthusiasts are less than a month away from challenging their boundaries in Porto’s Marathon. The event that takes place in the Atlantic front since 2004 will be on the road again, with several news and a safety plan approved by the Directorate General for Health.

The organisation announced that, this year, Porto’s Marathon will take place in Porto and Matosinhos. Due to renovation works in the bottom deck of Luís I bridge performed by Infraestruturas de Portugal, in the scope of the rehabilitation works of that passage, the crossing to Vila Nova de Gaia is not possible. On the other hand, Queimódromo, where the event’s arrival is usually located, now hosts the Covid-19 Testing Centre, being unavailable to welcome the finishing line structures. So, the three races finish line – EDP Porto’s Marathon (42km), APO Family Race of healthy bones (10km) and EDP Fun Race (6km) – will be Avenida do Parque, next to Parque da Cidade.

Start is scheduled to 9 o’clock by Sea Life Porto, at Via do Castelo do Queijo, and will be arranged by groups to guarantee the safe distance of the athletes. The organization promises the “biggest starting point ever” so that all athletes have space and tranquillity to perform the race safely.

The enrolments for the races, part of the Porto’s Marathon program, will be available until November 2 at www.maratonadoporto.com.
