PortoCartoon 2018 pays tribute to Wolinski

The first exhibition of 2018 at the National Press Museum is devoted to freedom of speech and will be on show as of Saturday, 6 January, starting at 4 pm.

The opening marks the start of the celebrations of the 20th PortoCartoon-World Festival, referring one of the leading figures of the humour contest, French cartoonist Georges Wolinski, murdered during a terrorist attack on 7 January 2015 at the satirical newspaper "Charlie Hebdo" newsroom.

This exhibit gathers around 70 books by Wolinski, as well as many sayings by the former jury president of this event. Wolinski was jury presidente for a decade.

"FREEDOM+HUMOUR= WOLINSKI" is aimed at enhancing press freedom.

Cau Gomez, Brazilian cartoonist who has just completed his artistic residency at the Maison Wolinski, will attend the opening of the exhibition.

Artists from all around the globe are being invited to participate at PortoCartoon 2018, whose main topic is "LIMPAR O PLANETA" [Cleasing the Planet]. Also, there will be a caricature prize to depict Amália Rodrigues and Woody Allen.

A novelty for this year contest is the PortoCartoon Juvenil [Youth]. The deadline for the submission of projects and works is 28 February.

This exhibit will be on show till 31 March 2018 at the National Press Museum.
