Porto Marathon on its way to setting new participation records

The 13th Porto Marathon, scheduled for November 6, is expected to set new participation records, both of Portuguese people who enjoy touring the Douro river area and an increasing number of foreigners who come to take part in the main race.

The Marathon has more than six thousand participants. Some of the most renowned Portuguese athletes namely José Moreira, Alberto Paulo, Filomena Costa, Catarina Ribeiro and Rosa Madureira have confirmed their presence at the event. In total, athletes from 56 countries around the world have signed up.

The race was recently awarded a 5 star rating by the European Athletics Association, with the "Quality Road Race" brand which ensures "a high level of security for people and goods as well as high quality services"; the race has a new route but retains the beauty of being run along the riverside area of the Douro, through the municipalities of Matosinhos and Vila Nova de Gaia.

When presenting the 13th edition of the Porto Marathon, mayor Rui Moreira stressed the importance of the event, since it "gives visibility to our cities and brings a positive impact" to the entire region.

The 13th Porto Marathon takes place next November 6 at 5 p.m., it starts and ends at the Queimódromo. Besides the main race, the Marathon of Porto also features the 15 km Family Race and the Fun Race, a non competitive 6 km walk aimed at all age groups.
