The Municipal Executive Board voted to transfer around 815 thousand euros to the Programa de Apoio à Redução Tarifária nos Transportes Públicos (PART). The amount agreed by the Porto Metropolitan Council corresponds to 20,83% of the total participation of the municipalities in the Área Metropolitana (AMP) in the mission of attracting passengers to public transports.

You can read in the signed document by the Mayor of Porto that “PART aims to promote the use of public transports, reduce polluting emissions, traffic jams, noise and, on the other hand, improve energy efficiency and levels of social inclusion”.

Government funding for the program totals 198,6 million euros, through revenues (138,6 million euros) and management balances (60 million euros) from the environmental Fund.

The amounts are transferred every three months to the Metropolitan Areas and Intermunicipal Communities considering the number of public transport users, weighted by the average travel time in public transports and by a factor of complexity of the transport systems in the metropolitan area.

In addition, reinforces the proposal presented by Rui Moreira, “access to PART funding is subject to a minimum contribution from the municipalities that make up the AMP, which, in 2021, was set at 20% of the amount transferred by the State.”

Thus, the amount of 3.910.274,17 euros of contribution from the AMP is arrived at and, among the municipalities that comprise it, the 814.503,87 euros that are due to Porto, agreed in the Metropolitan Council.
