Porto Ambiente honoured again as best Urban Waste Management company

Porto Ambiente has been honoured for the second time with the Municipal Waste Management Service Excellence Award. Awarded by the Water and Waste Services Regulatory Authority (Entidade Reguladora dos Serviços de Águas e Resíduos - ERSAR), the award acknowledges the quality of the service provided to the consumer, as well as compliance with the quality criteria that the entity defines for the sector, highlighting the municipal company as the best in its activity area.

'This distinction honours the daily work of Porto Ambiente's teams, but also the involvement and commitment of the people of Porto to a more sustainable city', the Deputy Mayor of Porto said.

Filipe Araújo, who also chairs the company's board of directors, believes this 'is also a reflection of the path we have been following in the field of environmental awareness and education, with schools, commercial establishments and institutions in the city'. 'Only through a change in behaviour and the commitment of the entire community can we continue to make history and successively surpass targets', the Deputy Mayor stressed.

The awarded was delivered at the third edition of the 'March Conferences' organised by ERSAR, which took place at the Pavilion of Knowledge in Lisbon's Parque das Nações. The initiative involved national and international experts in a wide-ranging debate on the sector, sharing reflections, best practices and suggestions for improvement.

Honoured for the fourth consecutive year

Created in 2017, Porto Ambiente had already been honoured with the ERSAR Excellence Award as the best waste management system in 2020.

In addition to this honour, it has been awarded for the fourth consecutive year the Municipal Waste Management Quality Seal from ERSAR, a distinction for the best practices of waste management organisations, for which they considered factors such as the selective collection waste recycling, collection service accessibility (proximity to disposal equipment), service affordability and expense coverage, among others.

In addition, the company's role as a driving force behind the Porto Climate Pact initiative is a preponderant factor in these awards, considering the work done with the community to involve everyone in pursuing the goals of achieving carbon neutrality in the city of Porto by 2030.

The continuous improvement of the system, namely the reorganisation and reinforcement of the ecopoint network with a view to improving user accessibility and suitability, the renewal of the fleet, the strong commitment to the bio-waste area, are some of Porto Ambiente's initiatives that underpin this continued acknowledgement as a benchmark company in the sector.
