The Fonoteca do Porto, aka Porto Audio Room shares its passion for music by according on Spotify a playlist of the best compositions by Portuguese piano player Vianna da Motta.

Owing to the pandemic, there are restrictions of movement this weekend, due to mandatory curfew, so why not take the time to enjoy great music and enhance an online experience? The delightful ready-to-go list of the best compositions by Vianna da Motta is available on Spotify. The Portuguese pianist was one of the last pupils of Franz Liszt and fellow of the virtuoso Ferruccio Busoni.

The Portuguese piano player, born on São Tomé Island, a Portuguese territory at the time, was also a composer in his own right, and his artistic pieces includes orchestral works, namely a symphony and several piano pieces.

Vianna da Motta recorded ten piano rolls for Welte-Mignon including three of his own compositions, in 1906. The José Vianna da Motta Music Competition was established in 1957 as a tribute to his legacy.
