Praça Gomes Teixeira, in front of the rectory of the University of Porto, was, last Friday, stage for the reception of more than 4,500 students who have just entered the academy of Porto. National and international students mingled in a joyful gathering, even before starting their degree or integrated masters.

The reception of the new students was attended by the Rector of U.Porto, António de Sousa Pereira, the Secretary of State for Higher Education, Pedro Nuno Teixeira, the president of the Federação Académica do Porto (FAP), Ana Gabriela Cabilhas, and the Councillor for Youth of the Porto City Council, Catarina Araújo, who recalled that the city is known "for being hospitable and knows how to welcome people and it is proud of it.” "The city has an almost maternal way of welcoming those who come from outside, that being the case of many of the new students. We are, in fact, an inclusive city, which does not go unnoticed and makes people feel like they belong," she stressed.

There are some programmes that the Municipality of Porto, along with U.Porto and FAP, has for students in order for them to benefit from better conditions of access to accommodation, transport, social cohesion, cultural and sports facilities and green and leisure areas. Much of this information is also assembled in the online platform "Study in Porto".

This was the return of the welcome "party" for national and international students, of which the last edition took place in 2019. During the event, students received a welcome kit, in addition to having the opportunity to participate in concerts, entertainment and other social activities.
