Abyssal, UPTEC startup and U. Porto’s spin-off was acquired by Ocean Infinity, a multinational company with specialist expertise in marine robotics.
Ocean Infinity is a global company specializing in the marine robotics area. It recently acquired Abyssal, a startup incubated at UPTEC — Technology and Science Park of the University of Porto. With over eight years’ experience background in the software engineering sector, Abyssal develops and implements software solutions for the offshore industry, with the goal of improving both safety and efficiency in underwater operations. The technology developed by this U.Porto spin-off covers cloud data platforms, synthetic environments, advanced 3D display and management system operation tools. This technology also provides for major offshore operators in the world to deliver complex projects in a safely manner.
The integration of Abyssal’s software experience with Ocean Infinity’s robotic fleet will enhance the safety of both the company and its operations, as well as improving the acquisition of the set of data, by means of operation development simulation, fleet management and cloud data management.
All 38 Abyssal’s collaborators will be part of the Ocean Infinity Group, but they will continue operating from Porto. This team will play a crucial role as regards the Group’s software development capacity, as it continues to grow and to provide the acquisition of the set of data and robotics for its maritime clients.
“We share the same vision as Ocean Infinity of continuing to challenging the limits and the possibilities of the technology, especially when applied to Maritime Technology. We see this merge as a way of being able to contribute to developing offshore operations that are increasingly safe and sustainable”, affirmed Manuel Parente, founder and CTO at Abyssal to the UP News Portal.
In turn, Olivier Plunkett, CEO of Ocean Infinity, states that “bringing this highly qualified team to the company, strengthens our ability to provide high quality data, in a swift and safe manner.”
