Nobel Prize in Chemistry Ada Yonath was invited to Porto by medical students

Over 500 students from 25 countries take part in the 12th Edition of the YES Meeting, promoted by students from the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Porto (FMUP).

The meeting has begun yesterday and it will run until Sunday, 17 September and it includes guest speakers from the field of Biomedical Sciences. One of the headliners of the meeting is Nobel Prize in Chemistry 2009 Ada Yonath.

The full agenda of the YES (Young European Scientist) Meeting comprises conferences, workshops, presentations, scientific competitions, speed meetings with guest speakers and a parallel programme to discover the city and enjoy convivial moments.

Besides Ada Yonath (she addresses the audience Sunday), other reputed guests such as Nicholas Lyndon, Lasker Prize in 2009; Grégoire Courtine, Professor in Lausanne, Switzerland; Tomoaki Kato, pioneer in the work of multiple organs transplant; and North- American neuroscientist James Fallon participate in this event.

Finally, Portuguese renowned pathologist and researcher Manuel Sobrinho Simões will present the opening remarks of this initiative.

The YES Meeting has been held since 2006, with an increasing number of participants and it is seen today as an important event in the biotechnologies international meetings.

The main goal of this event is to promote networking between medical students and qualified scientists.
