Starting this Tuesday, April 18th, visitors of Museu do Porto will now have at their disposal an audio-guide’s service.

Precisely on the International Day for Monuments and Sites, Museu do Porto takes a step towards becoming more accessible to those who visit. The project was implemented in Museu Romântico, in Portuguese, and, will soon follow other spaces from the net, as well as other languages.

This feature allows the contextualisation of the visit to the montage “Metamorfoses: Imanência Vegetal, Mineral e Animal no Espaço Doméstico Romântico”.

The audio-guides improve the information and reinforce the accessibility of these spaces. There are more than 30 entries available for consultation on site: from Quinta da Macieirinha to Museu Romântico, from the history of King Carlos Alberto when he lived in Porto, to the construction of the cabinet of curiosities that is “Cosmos”, to the reason why there are Japanese fans, flamenco combs and faience from Bordallo Pinheiro in the current montage.

The procedure to access this audio-guide’s service to Museu do Porto is simple and can be completed in only three steps: visitors only need access to Wi-Fi, read the QR Code available on site (or access Museu do Porto website), and then point the telephone’s camera to different rooms and begin the experience.

Access to the Museu do Porto’s audio-guides is done through a smartphone, but those who do not have one can also experience this service. There are devices available for temporary borrowing on the sites where the feature exists.

The International Day for Monuments and Sites was instituted on April 18th 1982 by ICOMOS – International Council on Monuments and Sites and approved by UNESCO in the following year. Ever since, this commemorative date has offered the opportunity to raise the public’s awareness regarding the diversity of heritage and to the necessary efforts to protect and conserve it.
