There was unanimity in the Municipal Executive when it came to voting to reinforce support to the city of Beira for the construction of the Center for Training and Research in Health Sciences at the Hospital Central of that Mozambican locality, with which Porto has a twinning agreement.

The proposal signed by the Mayor of Porto, Rui Moreira, received the favorable votes of all councilmen at the private meeting of the Executive this morning. The Municipality will grant Health4Moz a financial support of 120 thousand euros, intended exclusively to support the construction work of the Center for Training and Research in Health Sciences at Hospital Central in Beira.

This unit will be “fundamental for the training of health professionals in Mozambique”, one can read on the document signed by Rui Moreira.

The construction project, budgeted at 367 thousand euros, will also have the support of Grupo Visabeira and the Municipalities of Sintra and Coimbra and is expected to be completed in September 2022.

The support now approved joins the one previously granted, in the amount of 100 thousand euros, intended for the reconstruction of the surgical block of the Hospital Central of Beira, severely affected by cyclone Idai. On the occasion, 10 thousand euros were also sent for a quick intervention in the Portuguese School in Beira. The receiver of the support, Health4Moz, is a Non-Governmental Organization for Development “based in Porto and with a recognized and meritorious field work developed in Mozambique and particularly in the city of Beira, where it is involved in actions of training and qualification of local medical staff”, noted the proposal.
