The World Heritage Journeys Europe will be held all over the continent, between the 23 and 25. Once again, Porto City Hall joins the celebration, fulfilling the challenge launched by Direção Geral do Património Cultural, an entity coordinator of the journeys in our country (check the national programme).

Thus, between the 23 and 28, Porto City Hall, with the collaboration of Águas e Energia do Porto, promotes several activities that invite the public to know and reflect on our heritage, with conferences, exhibitions, workshops, and guided tours.

A joint initiative of the Council of Europe and the European Commission, the World Heritage Journeys Europe are the cultural event most widely celebrated and shared by the old continent’s citizens. They are also an opportunity to celebrate the diverse cultural heritage of cities, regions, and people in Europe, reinforcing feelings of cultural identity, collective memory, and statement of a common heritage whose wealth lies in diversity.

Every year a theme is defined for the journeys, which the participating countries are encouraged to adopt their program of initiatives. More than 70 thousand events are organized annually, with the aim of raising awareness of Europe’s common heritage and the need of its ongoing protection, through the creation of experiences that promote inclusion and foster creation and innovation.

This year, the European organization invites you to explore actions that can be taken to protect Europe’s rich and diverse cultural heritage in the context of climate changes and environmental deterioration. The focus will be on the active role of communities and heritage in the process of building a more sustainable and resilient future, encouraging debate on the relevance and value of culture and heritage and their contribution to sustainable development.
