In the football match between Sport Comércio e Salgueiros and Clube Desportivo de Gouveia, played at Complexo Desportivo de Campanhã, the stars of the game were the four-legged friends.

Fully equipped, they entered the pitch with the players of the mythic club from the city of Porto, brightening up a match that ended with a round victory of the host emblem, which defeated the team from Beiras by 4-0 and leads the C Series of the Portuguese Championship.

The action came from a joint initiative by Porto City Hall and Sport Comércio e Salgueiros, with the aim of raising awareness of the population to the conscious and responsible adoption of these animals. “It is a very positive initiative by Salgueiros, which pleases us very much, because we have available animals for adoption at the CROA. It’s a good way to raise awareness of the population to adoption, before buying an animal”, said the vice-mayor of Porto City Hall, Filipe Araújo, to Jornal de Notícias, in a match in which the City Hall was also represented by the councilwoman for Youth and Sports, Catarina Araújo.

“A dog for adoption” was the motto of the campaign to which the sports director of Salgueiros said “yes” without hesitation, having praised the way fans enthusiastically reacted to the initiative.

Opened in April 2020, the Porto CROA is one of the cornerstones of the Plano Municipal de Controlo e Bem-Estar of Dog and Cats Animal population and can shelter around 95 dogs and 80 cats.
