The Sports Complex was built in 1997 and has undergone refurbishment works about two years ago, doubling its outdoor tennis courts and now it is a reference sports complex in the North of the country for the tennis sports.

Currently, Monte Aventino is extending its indoor tennis courts with a 3200 square metres nave, with three indoor tennis courts, also adding a fitness centre, a physical therapy room, changerooms, technical offices and tennis court seating for 100 people, as stated by Ágora Porto.

Refurbishment works commenced in February and are the outcome of a partnership between Porto City Hall and the Portuguese Tennis Federation, with the purpose of management and operation of the sports centre. This is the second phase of the construction works that should be concluded in the beginning of 2021.

"It will be a sort of multipurpose pavilion, with a total covered area of 3200 square metres that will host an array of activities other than tennis; once this last phase of the project is completed, we will have fulfilled this ambition of having [in Porto] one of the best tennis centres at both national and European level", enhanced Vasco Campos, President of the Portuguese Tennis Federation.
