Miguel Bombarda district offers online entertainment over the weekend

The next edition of “Inaugurações Simultâneas” [“Simultaneous Inaugurations”, free translation], at the Miguel Bombarda arts district, scheduled for 14th November, is postponed for a new date: 17th November, when galleries are open to welcome visitors and the programme is on until January.

However, the entertainment usually offered on Saturdays afternoons takes on a digital format, owing to the Emergency State and the new rules regarding the curfew on Saturday and Sunday, between 1pm and 5am of the next day. This will mark the last edition of the 2020 exhibition cycles in the contemporary art galleries, located at Rua de Miguel Bombarda, which had to be delayed to the next Tuesdays.

However, the street entertainment delivered at the same time the galleries are open are on for this Saturday, but take place at Agora’s Facebook page, which also was the case of the previous edition.

The motto is “Bombarda em Casa”, [“Bombarda at Home”, free translation] and will deliver three “arts and crafts” workshops and a Talk on the creative process.

The visual artist A Constança is in charge of this edition’s poster and the letterpress is the result of a partnership between the designer and artistic director Joana Machado (Colönia Studio).

Some galleries feature new exhibitions, other will extend the ones already on display. Concurrently, the commercial and alternative spaces of the city’s arts district are preparing new collections, ecologic and sustainable design suggestions, as regards national made fashion and accessories, contemporary Jewellery design, decorative objects and customizable lighting, Christmas baskets, sweets, wine and seasonal products.

3pm – Self-portrait drawing

"Espelho meu, espelho meu." [“Mirror, mirror, on the Wall”, free translation]. Participants will appreciate self-portraits by famous people; next, they will be asked to draw their own self portrait, step, by step, all together. They will be taught the basic guidelines regarding face ratios and have a go at blinded design and other distortions.

The workshop is available for 20 people, and the activity is meant for people aged six years or more. See HERE for applications.

4pm – Contemporary Jewellery, by Aurea Praga

This is an academic practice and does not require participants to master previous knowledge, and it will be a starting point to reflect on contemporary jewellery, namely its terminology, an international contextualization and the interpretation of fundamental works.

The purpose is that participants grasp the contemporary side of this sector and build a more accurate perception on its context.

Target participants are jewellers and contemporary jewellery aficionados. The workshop is available for 10 participants and registrations are made via email.

5pm - Bateria e ritmos [Drums and Rhythms, free translation], by José Marrucho

This Workshop delivers different ways to approach different music genres. Tips will be given to those that wish to become a professional musician. Target audiences are basic and intermediate level musicians. Workshop vacancies are five. Register via email.

6pm - "Da Metáfora Literária à Metáfora Visual", [“From the Literary Metaphor to the Visual Metaphor”, free translation], by Constança Araújo Amador and Catarina Gomes, mediated by Paula Sá.
