The cinema cycle "Há Filmes na Baixa" is back in Porto from 9 to 22 June and features some of the most iconic films, in collaboration with Porto/Post/Doc. Highlight to the two cult movies that will take to the silver screen at Passos Manuel this June: Ran and Apocalipse Now.

It’s been almost a year since the “Há Filmes na Baixa!” initiative was held in the Invicta and this month of June there are two must-watch or must have watched films that are part of the unique Seventh Art history: Ran, by Akira Kurosawa, on 9 June, at 8 pm and “Apocalypse Now – Final Cut“, by Francis Ford Copolla, on 22 June, at 7.30 pm.

Ran, by Kurosawa is deemed one of the filmmaker’s masterpieces; it is an adaptation of Shakespeare’s King Lear, an epic action drama film that tells the story of the great samurai warlord who decides to abdicate as ruler in favour of his three sons; however, the sons become antagonists of their father.

“Apocalypse Now – Final Cut“, by Coppola, is part of the Hollywood cult film scenario. It traces the Vietnam War and the fight of a young American Captain who decided to hunt down a defector colonel who was hiding in the jungle and was commanding guerrillas in Cambodia.

This is the third version of the film, which premiered in 1979, a 4K restored version, with a special highlight to the soundtrack. Coppola himself supervised the entire process and presented the film at the Cannes Film Festival, in 2019, 40 years after the original film debut. This is the second longest version of the film, with a 183 minutes long screening.

Tickets cost five euros. Students get a discount (tickets cost 2 euros) and people aged 65 or over pay 3.5 euros. Also, Tripass holders get a discount and pay 3.5 euros.
