It’s official: Porto is the World’s Leading City Destination 2022

The public voted and the award was given, Porto was considered World’s Leading City Destination 2022. The recognition was given Friday night, at the World Travel Awards ceremony, in Muscat, Oman.

Porto left behind the Mexican cities of Acapulco, Cancún, and Mazatlán; Bogotá, Colombia; Quito, Ecuador; the South-African Cape Town; the Kenyan Nairobi; Dubai, in the United Arab Emirates; the North American Las Vegas, Miami, and New York; Hanoi (Vietnam), Hong Kong (China), the Australian Melbourne and Sidney, as well as New Zealand’s Queenstown; London, Lyon, Marrakech, and the city of Lisbon.

The awards ceremony, considered the Oscars of tourism, brought together the presence of the main decision makers, prominent names in the sector, as well as influencers and the specialized media.

The councillor responsible for Tourism and Internationalization, Catarina Santos Cunha received the award on behalf of the City of Porto, at a gala in which the president of the Associação de Turismo do Porto, Luís Pedro Martins was also present.

Voting for the World Travel Awards was open to the public until October 20, in a race in which Porto was still competing as World’s Leading Heritage City Destination. Prior to that, Invicta had already won in the regional sectors of the contest, with the award for Europe's Leading City Destination.

The World Travel Awards cover the entire spectrum of the travel and tourism industry, from hotels, resorts, and destinations to airlines and tour operators around the world and are recognized globally as a mark of excellence.
