The Research Institute for Healthcare Research and Investigation (i3S) has announced today that a European project, in which i3S is part and that helps identify signs of genetic problems, namely cancers and hereditary neurodegenerative conditions, has won the Health European Award.

The Gen-Equip project is aimed at providing, online and free, professional and educational curriculum for primary care health professionals. This project integrates a Predictive Genetics Team and i3S, both based in Porto and it was selected for "the high level of innovation and the useful contribution to training health professionals in Europe".

Thus, the care given to patients, which have or are at risk of having a genetic health condition "will be greatly improved", concluded Gen-Equip promoters to Lusa Agency.

The Gen-Equip project was launched in 2014, integrated and funded by Erasmus+ programme.  It was developed in close co-operation with academia, health professionals, and patients from various European countries.

The European Health Forum Gastein (EHFG) gives the European Health Award prize to transnational projects which contribute to the improvement of public health in Europe.
