i3S researcher, Flávia Castro was awarded the Best Poster under the conference "Cancer Biology: from basic to Translational Research", by the Portuguese League Against Cancer (LPCC) for her work in the area of breast cancer. The poster was presented during the Web Conference Cancer Biology: from basic to Translational Research.

Flávia Castro works on Cancer Biology, and develops her research "Chitosan/g-PGA nanoparticles-based immunotherapy as adjuvant to radiotherapy in breast cancer», in coordination with researchers Maria José Oliveira and Raquel Gonçalves, as well as in close collaboration with researchers Mário Barbosa and Fátima Gartner, of i3S, and Olivier de Wever, of the Cancer Research Experimental Laboratory, in Ghent, Belgium.

This study is based on the role of the immunomodulatory of the Chitosan nanoparticles and the poly-g-glutamic acid (polymers of natural origin), which has been recently published by one of the most reputed the scientific magazine in the field of biomaterials and therapy development, "Biomaterials".

This award acknowledges the consistent research by Flávia Castro over the past years; in 2019, she was granted the Best Student Award by the European Society of Biomaterials, as well as relevant honours by entities such as the European Association for Cancer Research (EACR), the Portuguese Association for Cancer Research (ASPIC), or even the Portuguese Society of Immunology (SPI).

The work that was now awarded in included in a project financed by the he Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT), in 2018 and led by the i3S researcher Maria José Oliveira.
