The hotel sector in Porto and owners of Local Lodging establishments, under the coordination of Porto City Hall, are making rooms available to medical staff working in hospitals in the city of Porto.

Many professional in the health sector do not want to risk contagion in their households, so they prefer not to go home after a days' working at the hospitals. This is also a way of shortening travels and increasing resting times.

This is why businesspeople in the hotel sector have made rooms available to these professionals, spontaneously, and in joint coordination with municipal authorities. In total, there are circa 180 available rooms, but many more can be ready to use.

The Municipality of Porto coordinates this initiative with the hospital administrations, with whom it has also been working on the supply of personal protection materials and namely ventilators imported from China.

It is worth mentioning that other sectors have also shown their availability and willingness to help, showing an unprecedented sense of civic-awareness and solidarity, to fighting this pandemic.
