Guindais funicular under maintenance for a month

Within the scope of the maintenance management of the Guindais funicular, the municipality of Porto will carry out an extraordinary maintenance and preservation action, for which will be necessary to close the funicular, to guarantee the safety of all users and parties involved. The railway that links Batalha to Ribeira will be closed from November 9th to December 8th.

After a first project for transport between the high and low parts of the Historic Centre in the 19th Century, the current funicular started operating in 2004.

The management of the Guindais funicular was taken over by Porto’s city hall in 2019 with the goal of framing this equipment in an integrated system of mechanical linkages between Batalha and Ribeira, thus ensuring the improvement of accessibility and mobility in less polluting public transportation and soft modes.

Last year, 18.348 rides were counted along the 281 meters of the route.
